Adoption
Before
one can qualify for an adoption, there is specific
minimum criteria one must prove. We won't let one
of our puppies go to just anyone. Do you think you
are willing to make a life long commitment for this
canine companion? Then you might be ready.
We
care, therefore we require the following (minimum)
1st:
The dog or bitch will be treated as a member of the
family. They will not be abused or subjected to
any illegal activity (illegal racing, fighting, or
anything of the sort).
2nd:
If you EVER decide you don't want the canine, can't
maintain the canine (financially or otherwise), or
whatever the case may be, we require the dog be given
back to us <period>. Call us, and we will work
with you to get the dog from your house back to ours! If
someone doesn't do this, then we will obtain the dog
at the expense of the owner. The dog will be
tattooed (humane and behind the ear of course) with our
kennel and contact information to ensure this occurs.
3rd:
You must have a yard with a fence that is at least
6ft in height (standard size). These aren't large
dogs, but they do need a place they can roam free
without a lead.
4th:
Case dependent
on the specific canine and our agreement, we may ask you to show the dog or bitch. We will pay for
the show registrations, you will either handle the dog
or pay for a professional handler (not nearly as
expensive as you might think). Again, this depends
on the specific canine and our agreement for that
specific canine.
5th:
You may be required to undergo a background check at
your expense and our discretion (the cost may be applied to the cost of the
canine pending a favorable result). The
whippet community is rather small, and if we know you
personally, we won't necessarily require the background
check. Please understand these are our
canine children and we won't let them go to just
anyone. This is a precautionary measure on our
part to help us feel better about the home he or she is
going to.
6th:
An interview. Yes, we will interview you!
If you live locally, we would like you to come over to
our facility, and we would like to see your residence.
If you don't, we will most certainly be conducting a
phone interview and a background check.
7th:
An adoption contract. This isn't just a
legally binding bill of sale, this is a live animal
contract which specifies all of the above criteria, and
slightly more.
After
reading this, if you aren't willing to commit to all of
the above possibilities, then I recommend you find
another breeder. These puppies are extremely
special, selectively breed, and are warm loving
creatures. If you were in our position, I would
sincerely hope you would require the same.
